By day, the esteemed Vera Sauriel serves the portside city of Drottinmyr as an ordained priestess of necromancy - ushering the dead to the afterlife and counseling their aggrieved families. By night, she and her partner, Morven, conduct illegal necromancy experiments trying to accomplish the impossible: resurrect a spirit in a new living body. Everything appears to be going as planned until a neighboring city is found on the ocean floor, Morven is tapped for a promotion of the highest order, and a dead child attempts to possess Vera. Turns out in a city of sinners, everyone lies, nothing is sacred, and ends may justify the means.
